Sports Medicine Community Outreach
Nationally, the number of serious high school athletic injuries continues to rise. The media is constantly reporting injuries sustained in athletic competition such as cardiac arrest and brain and spinal cord trauma. Unfortunately, the frequency is growing at an alarming rate often in young athletes. Baptist Health Care and the Andrews Institute through the Andrews–Paulos Research & Education Institute provide hands–on assistance to lessen the possibility of athletic trauma by providing certified athletic trainers (ATCs) and physicians to all high schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, and most recently to Foley High School in Foley, Alabama. In just the last year, over 7,100 injuries were treated and over 3,000 sports physicals were provided to local area athletes. Even more unique, our ATCs work with local EMS units to improve first responder skills and techniques. We would love to hear from you! Click here to fill out our questionnaire
We also provide a free Saturday Morning Athletic Training Room. The physicians and certified athletic trainers that staff the Training Room provide free injury assessments to athletes on a walk–in basis. Many of these athletes participated in a sporting event the evening before and either didn’t have medical attention on–site or awoke to grueling pain that needed urgent care. Theses services are provided to the parents, athletes and schools free–of–charge — insurance is never billed for the services the ATCs provide. We pay for all related expenses and fund the program through grants and charitable contributions. Our Certified Athletic Trainers provide the following services:
