Metabolic Testing - The Key To Weight Loss

Do you think you have slow metabolism? Are you interested in losing weight?

The Andrews Institute now offers professional metabolic testing for the thousands of people interested in weight loss.  Metabolism is different for everyone and is based on genetics, eating habits, medications and fitness levels.  Weight gain can occur for a variety of physical, emotional and environmental factors.  Metabolism is the key to weight loss and testing metabolic rate will determine exactly how many calories are needed each day.  Re-testing over time will reveal how diet and exercise influence metabolism.

Metabolic rate, or metabolism, is the rate the body expends energy, or burns calories.  Knowing your own, personal metabolic rate is key for weight loss and/or determining the number of calories for various disease states. Testing your resting metabolic rate determines the calories burned at rest that are needed just to maintain life.

  • Most of the calories burned during the day (70-80%) are burned at resting levels.
  • Activity calories are burned during normal activities such as walking, digesting food, doing household chores, etc.
  • Exercise calories are burned through intentional exercise.
  • The total metabolic rate is the sum of all of the above.

The resting metabolic rate test will provide the base number of calories your body needs per day.  Engaging in activity or exercise, or eating fewer calories will put the body in a caloric deficit where Energy IN < Energy OUT and weight loss can occur.

What to Expect

Testing resting metabolic rate is very relaxing. Avoid eating, caffeine, exercising, or engaging in stressful situations at least four hours prior to testing. During the test, you will put a clip on your nose and breathe through a sterile mouthpiece. Lie back and relax for 10-15 minutes while professionals measure exactly how many calories your body burns.

Finally, you can take the guess work out of dieting!
